Air Experience Flight
Looking for your first taste of gliding? Our Air Experience Flight is the perfect introduction.
You’ll be towed to around 2,500 feet in a 2-seat glider, piloted by one of our skilled pilots, before releasing into the quiet freedom of soaring flight.
From there, simply relax and enjoy the breathtaking views of the South Wales countryside.
Flight time is typically around 15-20 minutes, though depending on the weather conditions, it can often be longer.

Mile High Experience Flight
Looking for something truly unforgettable? Our Mile High Experience Flight is one of our most popular gifts. Perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, or special occasions.
You’ll be aerotowed to over 5,000 feet (one mile high), often above the clouds, where the views across South Wales and into England are simply breathtaking.
With an experienced pilot at the controls, you’ll enjoy an extended flight time of around 30-40 minutes, giving you more time to relax, take in the scenery and feel the freedom of silent flight.
This is more than just a flight, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime adventure you’ll be talking about for years to come.

Almost anyone can enjoy a glider flight; however, there are some height and weight restrictions.
Typically up to around 6’4” (1.93m) will be able to get comfortable the glider and 16 stone (100kg) is the maximum passenger weight.
If you’re unsure, just ask us before booking.

Yes, participants must usually be at least 12 years old, though this can depend on height and build to ensure they can safely sit in the cockpit and operate the harness.
There is no maximum age and we have helped many families celebrate 90th birthdays with our flights. The main consideration is being able to get in and out of the glider with minimal assistance, therefore any mobility issued should be carefully considered.

Dress comfortably, as you would for the outdoors. Layers are best, and don’t forget sunglasses - the views can be dazzling.

Gliding is weather dependant. If conditions aren’t suitable, we’ll reschedule your flight for another convenient date. Your voucher remains valid.
There might be occasions that we reschedule your flight but you will notice that our members are still flying. This is usually because our members are able to fly in quite challenging conditions that most people would find very uncomfortable for their first experience. Rest assured, if we feel that the weather will impact your enjoyment of the flight, we will discuss this with you and reschedule to a more appropriate day.

Yes, definitely! We welcome spectators. They can watch from the clubhouse where we have picnic benches and facilities.
Please make sure that spectators arrive with you so that they can also receive a safety briefing about their time at the airfield.

Gliding is an adventurous sport and therefore carries hazards. Whilst safety can never be completely guaranteed, all flights are conducted by experienced, qualified pilots who have all undergone additional training and ratings to carry passengers.
South Wales Gliding Club and its pilots operate under British Gliding Association (BGA) standards.

Whether it’s a birthday, corporate away-day, or simply a chance to do something different with friends, our group experiences combine the thrill of gliding with a fun, social atmosphere on the airfield.
We can host not only small groups of thrill seekers but also larger community groups and clubs. Pictured above is the Usk Valley Classic Car Club who have frequented the airfield on a number of occasions for evenings of flying, cars and food. Whilst we usually fly with 10 individuals in an evening, we catered for an additional 60 people who attended just to experience the uniqueness of holding an event on our beautiful airfield.

Spend a half-day or full-day with us and experience what it’s like to aerator up to 2,500 feet, high above the beautiful welsh landscape.
An unforgettable experience shared with friends!
Group winch package
(suitable for 6 to 20 people)
Enjoy the excitement of back to back winch launches in a lively afternoon or evening setting. Watch your friends soar skywards as the winch launches the glider from 0-60mph in a matter of seconds and from the ground to about 1,000 feet in as little as 30 seconds.
Once at the top of the launch, it’s time to relax, gently soar back to the ground, taking in the picturesque South Wales countryside.
