VGC UK National Rally 2024

Join us for the 2024 Vintage Glider Club UK National Rally
Following the small but successful “Coronation Rally” held at Usk in May 2023, South Wales GC is pleased to announce that it is hosting the VGC UK National Rally in 2024.
If you have already registered and now wish to pay your entry fee and/or camping fee, please do so by visiting the dedicated payment page.
Registration is still open; however, further entries may be placed on a waiting list to be confirmed in early May.
Fees and Payments
We aim to be a cash free club but we are happy to take cash during the event for bar sales and evening socials. A card machine is also available in the clubhouse.
Entry fees are encouraged to be paid via the website in advance of the event. Flying fees will be charged at standard club rates and payable durign the event.
Due to the high number of applications to participate, a £20 deposit, or the full entry fee is required before 30th April to secure a place a the rally. Up until 30th April, an early bird discount applies if paying the full entry fee.
Camping will be charged at £10 per night, per tent/motorhome. Those wishing to arrive a day early and/or leave a day late will not be charged for the additional days, ie a maximum fee of £60 will apply.
Launching
We operate with a Skylaunch winch and Pawnee tow plane.
Our airfield is relatively short and has a grass runway. Winch launches are typically 800’-1,000’ depending on conditions and, due to the shape of our field, there can often be a crosswind component to our launches.
We are planning on having a second tug available for the duration of the event and this is likely to be another Pawnee.
Accommodation and Facilities
For those with motorhomes and tents, we are able to offer on-site stays. Unfortunately, we are currently unable to provide electricity hook-ups. Within the clubhouse we have toilet facilities, a shower, kitchen and licenced bar.
There are a number of local hotels and B&Bs close to the airfield.
Hangarage
We may be able to offer hangarage to a small number of gliders should conditions not allow them to remain rigged overnight in the open. Please contact us about this ahead of the event as any space will be offered on a first come, first served basis.
